Paving Concrete- Retailers know that the way that their customers perceive them is a critical part of their success. A favorable perception starts with the retailer’s exterior, including the parking lot. Shoppers want to feel that they and their vehicles will be safe; if the lot is in disrepair or if pedestrians have to dodge puddles of water to reach the entrance, shoppers are going to have an unfavorable impression of the store, the quality of its merchandise and the esteem in which management holds the store’s customers.
Although the condition of the entire parking lot matters, when the lack of maintenance affects the handicapped parking spaces and the crosswalks, the damage to the store’s reputation can be made even worse. When At Home, a leading retailer of home décor products, had issues at their New Braunfels store with standing water in the handicapped spaces and crosswalk as well as failing asphalt pavement in the main drive fronting the entrance to the store, managers knew that they needed to correct the problems if they wanted to attract and retain loyal customers. Alpha Paving was contracted through Axiom Construction to deal with the issues that the store had with their asphalt pavement.
What the Job Involved
We removed the existing asphalt pavement and base to a depth of 6 to 8 inches. We also removed approximately 40 linear feet of stand-up curbing.
The subgrade needed attention, so we handled the preparation required to ensure that the new pavement would have the proper support. We replaced the asphalt pavement as needed. We also replaced about 40 linear feet of curbing with concrete that was between 6 and 8 inches thick. The concrete was broom-finished so that it would blend in with the surrounding concrete.
We applied fresh paint to the areas affected. These areas included the stand-up curb, the crosswalk and the handicapped parking spaces, which were made ADA-compliant. The striping and pavement markings were applied to conform with the existing layout.
All work was completed by June 30, 2017. The problems with standing water were corrected to make accessing the store easier for everyone, especially the customers parking in the handicapped stalls. The failing asphalt and concrete curbing were replaced, making the area safer as well as more attractive. As is our custom, we provided quality workmanship, stayed within budget, completed the work on schedule and made sure that the customer was completely satisfied with all of the work that we performed.
